Filming & Editing Preliminary

Today I have filmed my preliminary, I have focused on using various different shots to show a variety within my video. I am now currently editing which is taking some time, as it is important to get the track and the lip syncing in time with eachother so the video is more effective.

Survey

Here is my groups survey asking questions that will help us get an idea of what our target audience is and the reaction to the song we have chosen.

Here is the link to the survey, if you could spare a minute to take it that would be great, thanks!

Preliminary Task

For our preliminary task we must lip sync to the song ' Don't Go Breaking My Heart' by Elton John and Kiki Dee. For this task we have to make sure we film three or more continuous takes with varied camera positions. We have to sing aloud to the song after we have successfully downloaded it onto our mobile phones. Although the song includes both a male and female vocal, it is not necessary for us to use both genders for the video, but there has to be two people lip syncing. We should get various shots of both actors singing on their own and together.

The idea of this task is to give us some kind of idea what producing our music video for the coursework will be like. It also gives a few of us a chance to work on our lip syncing.

Here is the song we are lipsyncing, along with the lyrics.

Emil Nava

Emil Nava started off as being a runner for various film production companies, he then went on to working for 'Blink Productions' and is now currently freelancing for OB Management. He became signed to 'Academy' and he now works for Pulse mainly. His budget for the making of video 'Our House' was £20,000. His budgets varied between £5000-£10,000 when he shot videos for independent labels. The video for 'Our House' was shot in Manchester and it was local people that had been cast to appear in the video. It took one day to film, 2 or 3 days to edit it and a full 10 days of post production.

Here are a few recent music videos that he has directed;

Jamie Thraves

This company is where he made his first breakthrough video for Radiohead called 'Just'. This video cost £100,000 and took only 3 days to shoot.

This is also a music video that Jamie Thraves has directed, 'The Scientist' by Coldplay. This video took a similar amount of time as 'Just' to film but for around double the price. This creation has won three awards in America, two including 'Best Breakthrough' & 'Best Direction' video.

Charly Houston - Paper People

This is the song that we have chosen and received permission to use for our music video...

Lyrics

These are the lyrics that Charly has emailed over to us of her song that we are using ; 'Paper people'

Paper People

Verse:
Your paper face tells so many lies,
Ink spilled with guilt,
Speaks wonders,
Your cardboard mouth filled with spite,
Your heart tells me nothing,

Pre Chorus:
And I, have so little time,
These cracked walls are filling up with sand,
And I can't find your hand,

Chorus:
I don't mean to push away,
But pushing back you're here to stay,
I promise this, it'll be that way,
Your paper face is covered up to hide the colours that I show,
I'm proud,
My paper mouth should speak out loud,

Verse:
I'm burning holes, in the soles of my shoes,
Walking, for you,
Rubber tires set on fire,
As tears stream down my face,

Pre Chorus:
And I,
Have so little time,
These cracked walls are filling up with sand,
And I can't find your hand,
Oh I'm lost,
Can you bear me a dime?
I'm an intervention, and this is what I do with my time,

Chorus:
I don't mean to push away,
But pushing back you're here to stay,
I promise this, it'll be that way,
Your paper face is covered up to hide the colours that I show,
I'm proud,
My paper mouth should speak out loud,
I'm proud,
My paper mouth should speak out loud.

Copyright

Copyright means that the creator will have the exclusive right to an 'original' piece of their work. If you wish to use this then you will have to be granted permission by the creator. An example would be our media work for this year. If we were to choose a song that someone had copyrighted because they had written it or bought the rights to it, then we would have to contact the 'owner' of this song and ask for permission to use it in our work. In other cases, peoples use of someone else's song could make money, but this would have to be discussed with the owner and they would talk about having a percentage of what's made etc.
